BackupEDGE Linux GPT Support

BackupEDGE Linux 3.x GPT Support

03.01.04 and Later - System Drives

RecoverEDGE supports GPT for all system drives (disks / logical disks) under the following 64bit operating systems only. See the appropriate Linux Support Tables page for the minimum required release for your operating system.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.
  • Oracle Linux Server 8.
  • CentOS 8.
  • Rocky Linux 8.
  • AlmaLinux 8.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x and later.
  • CentOS 7.x and later.
  • Oracle Linux Server 7.x and later.
  • SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 12.2 (with Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 installed) and later.
  • Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and later.

Each operating system version has a minumum support release as shown on our Linux Support Tables web pages.

You may not mix-and-match. System drives must be all partitioned with GPT or all partitioned with FDISK.

You must be using GRUB 2 as the bootloader.

For all Linux distributions not listed above, use of GPT for system drives makes RecoverEDGE unsupported.

03.01.02 and Later - SharpDrives™

BackupEDGE and RecoverEDGE support SharpDrives (removable USB backup storage media) with any size media. The SDRIVE Resource must be configured, and all removable media initialized, as GPT.

GPT SharpDrive media cannot be made bootable. You must use a RecoverEDGE CD or ISO image, or a PXE image, when booting for bare metal disaster recovery using GPT-configured SharpDrive media.

To use GPT on SharpDrives, GDISK must be available on the operating system.

All Earlier BackupEDGE Releases

FDISK only is supported. No GPT support of any kind. BackupEDGE won't care if system drives use GPT, but RecoverEDGE will not work. SharpDrives will all be formatted with FDISK.
